It's not too early to make your plans for Independence Day. Fort Benning is helping out by hosting their Independence Celebration Saturday, June 27th. You don't need a decal to get onto post on this special day, but drivers will need to show their identification. Live entertainment includes the Edwin McCain Band, among others, and there will be plenty of food and special activities for the kids. All of this is brought to you for free! Gates open at 3 pm on Saturday, and a fireworks display is scheduled for 10 pm. Don't forget that Thunder on the Hooch, a special alcohol and litter-free July 4th celebration, returns to the Riverwalk. It's always a day full of fun, food, entertainment and crafts. This year there will be a special obstacle course courtesy of Buffalo Rock Pepsi and Piggly Wiggly stores. The celebration runs from 5 - 9:30 pm on the Riverwalk and crosses over to Phenix City on the Dillingham Bridge. There, at the Phenix City Amphitheatre, a special God and Country performance begins at 7 pm. Fireworks will close down the festivities for the evening.
